MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University football continues to fill its roster as head coach
Tyler Hughes announced the signing of nine more student-athletes to National Letters of Intent Tuesday.
The Beavers have signed a total of 29 players for the upcoming season.
"With these new additions, we've been able to improve up front while giving us some additional skill, particularly on the offensive side of the ball," Hughes said. "The other great thing about this group is the leadership that many of them bring to the table. We're excited to have them join us."
Minot State added three incoming freshman including
Gavyn Alexander of Fullerton, Calif.; Eddie Reyes of Compton, Calif.; and
Michael Sewell, Jr., of Palmdale, Calif.
The other six signees are all junior college transfers including
Conrad Beach of Springville, Utah – who played college football at Snow College, including one season under coach Hughes;
Gareth Daniel, Las Vegas, Nev. (Antelope Valley City);
Jose Escobar, Norwalk, Calif. (Fullerton College); Mikail Parr, Hawthorne, Calif. (Long Beach City College);
Joe Torres, Santa Ana, Calif. (Santa Ana College) and
Emanuel Wyatt, Artesia, Calif. (Long Beach City College).
Beach, at 6-foot-2, 280 pounds; Daniel at 6-5, 320; Torres at 6-3, 325; and Prescott at 6-1, 310 all bring much needed size to the Beavers.
Minot State now has 16 incoming freshmen, 12 incoming juniors from a junior college and one junior transferring from and NCAA Division II school as a part of the 2014 recruiting class. California leads the way with 14 new Beavers, while four new student-athletes are from North Dakota. Rounding out the list are Florida (3), Washington (2), Arizona (2), Georgia (1), Montana (1), Nevada (1) and Utah (1).
Hughes will look to add a few more student-athletes to this group before starting camp in August.
California (7)Gavyn Alexander, 6-4, 245, TE, Fullerton, Calif. (Troy High School)Alexander was a two-year varsity for Troy High School He was named a captain as a senior, finishing with 87 yards and a touchdown on the season.
Jose Escobar, 6-1, 205, QB, Norwalk, Calif. (Fullerton College)Escobar was named a 2013 JC Athletic Bureau – California Community College Football Coaches Association First Team All-American after a standout sophomore season at Fullerton College. He was named Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Year after throwing for 3,301 yards and 26 TDs. He completed 68 percent of his passes and had just 12 interceptions over 317 attempts. He was an All-League and All-Area performer for John Glenn High School during a solid prep career.
Mikail Parr, 6-1, 185, WR, Hawthorne, Calif. (Long Beach City College)Parr was third on his team in catches during the 2013 season for Long Beach City College, hauling in 31 for 442 yards. He caught five touchdowns, ranking him second on the team and averaged 14.3 yards per catch.
Eddie Reyes, 5-9, 160, WR, Compton, Calif. (Inglewood High School)Played both wide receiver and running back for Inglewood High School, finishing with 801 yards rushing and three TDs and caught 15 passes for 96 yards and one TD during an outstanding senior season. Reyes was also a standout track & field performer in high school.
Michael Sewell, 6-1, 180, WR, Palmdale, Calif. (Highland High School)Sewell caught 18 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns for Highland High School. He was named All-League after his senior year and was honored as a captain in his final prep season. He finished with 515 total yards rushing and receiving in varsity action.
Joe Torres, 6-3, 325, OL, Santa Ana, Calif. (Santa Ana College)Torres was a mainstay on the offensive line at Santa Ana College for two seasons, helping the Dons to 3,368 total yards as a senior. He was a two-year letter winner for Century High School and also competed in track & field as a prep. Torres was also a two-time Scholar Athlete Award winning for Santa Ana.
Emanuel Wyatt, 5-7, 177, DB, Artesia, Calif. (Long Beach City College)Wyatt finished his 2013 season with 27 total tackles and four sacks for Long Beach City College. He finished the season with his best performance, finishing with an interception against Desert in a 55-10 win to go along with seven tackles.
Nevada (1)Gareth Daniel, 6-5, 320, OL, Las Vegas, Nev. (Antelope Valley College)Daniel played two seasons for Antelope Valley College after finishing as a three-sport standout for Arbor View High School.
Utah (1)Conrad Beach, 6-2, 280, Springville, Utah (Snow College)Beach is a two-year starter at right guard for Snow College, playing as a freshman for Hughes. Beach helped Snow to 345.5 yards per game average as a sophomore. He was also an All-Region and All-State football player as a prep for Springville High School.
