MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University baseball will hold its annual World Series beginning Saturday starting at 2:30 p.m. at Corbett Field.
Game 1 of the MSU Baseball World Series will feature the Gray Team – led by
Tanner Alexander and
Jordan Schulz – against Red Team – led by
Kendal Daniels &
Paul Vogelsang. The teams will play five games over the course of a week and a half as their final practices during the fall season.
"Our guys have been working really hard all fall and I'm excited to see how this plays out with the series," said MSU head coach
Scott Eul. "We have two really good teams set up and it's going to be a really competitive series."
Alexander/Schulz and Daniels/Vogelsang drafted the two teams last week and all competitors believe the intensity will amp of as the games progress.
"The fall series is a great way for us to showcase the abilities we've built on throughout the fall," senior Vogelsang said. "Everyone on the team is vying for a spot and it turns into a great competitive atmosphere."
"There are a lot of open spots still, so I expect the intensity to be high," Eul added.
The series winner will be determined in a best of five format, but all five games will be played regardless of the outcome. After Saturday's lid-lifter, the teams are scheduled to be back at Corbett at 3 p.m. Sunday. The teams will play a night game Monday, starting at 8 p.m., before going back to afternoons on Tuesday and Wednesday (3 & 4 p.m.).
"The boys are ready to play and it's going to be a battle," Schulz said. "Whichever team wants it more is going to win."
The four coaches are the team's four senior captains and, according to Eul, have provided leadership for the group as the team begins its first fall under his direction.
"We have a great group of captains and seniors this year and they have done a great job keeping the intensity up during practice," he said. "I'm really excited to see them push the new guys and how them how we expect to play this year. We have had some inter-squad games and some competitions in practice, but this World Series is going to up the intensity to a new level."
The games are free to the public.
