MINOT, N.D. – Mark Del Monaco has been named the head men's and women's cross country and track and field head coach at Minot State, Director of Athletics
Andy Carter announced on Monday.
Del Monaco comes to Minot State from Cal State East Bay in Hayward, Calif., where he has served as the assistant coach since the fall of 2016. He also was an assistant coach at Metropolitan State in Denver, Colo., for three seasons.
"Mark is an outstanding addition to our team," said Carter. "His experience and energy will serve him and our programs well.
"Mark was selected because his talent and abilities match our vision for the cross country and track and field programs."
During his stints at Cal State East Bay and Metro State, Del Monaco coached 12 All-Americans, 23 all-region honorees and had 25 student-athletes named all-conference.
"I'd like to first thank President Steven Shirley,
Andy Carter,
Wendy McManus and the rest of the interview committee for this tremendous opportunity to lead the Minot State cross country and track and field programs," said Del Monaco. "I am excited to get to work and be a part of the Beaver athletic program.
"In talking with
Andy Carter, he shared an exciting vision for not only the cross country and track and field programs, but the athletic department as a whole. Once on campus during the interview process, hearing that same excitement from the staff and the coaches sold me that Minot State was a place that I wanted to take the next step in my career."
In addition to outstanding success on the track, Del Monaco has seen his teams earn team all-academic honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association in each of the past three years.
"First and foremost, we want to be able to provide student-athletes with the total student-athlete experience during their time at Minot State. We want to be successful not only on the cross country course and track but in the classroom as well. At the end of the day, our goal here is to develop and mentor these student-athletes so that they may be successful the rest of their lives."
During his year at Cal State East Bay, Del Monaco coached an NCAA provisional qualifier and a USTFCCCA all-region honoree. His coaching led to the first all-conference cross country honoree in school history and he also helped coach the Pioneers to their highest finish at the conference outdoor track championships in school history.
At Metro State, Del Monaco oversaw 12 All-Americans in track and field and cross country. Twenty two of his athletes earned All-South Central Region honors and 21 athletes were named All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
He coached the Roadrunners women's team to an eighth-place finish at the 2013 NCAA Championships, which marked the highest finish in school history. Additionally, two of his student-athletes were named First Team Academic All-America in 2014.
Del Monaco competed collegiately at La Salle University where he was a member of the cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field teams.
Del Monaco earned his degree from La Salle in 2011 in information technology.
