Counts Signs NLI with Minot State Women's Basketball Program

MINOT, N.D. – Anna Counts has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Minot State University and play women's basketball for the Beavers, head coach Mark Graupe announced Monday.

Counts, a native of Crystal, Minn., currently attends Providence Academy.

"Anna was an under-the-radar prospect that we did not learn about until reading on most improved players in Minnesota this past winter," said Graupe. "I think she has a huge upside with a tremendous skill set that Minot State fans will enjoy watching the next four years."

The 6-2 forward averaged 17 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks per game this season at Providence Academy while shooting 60 percent from the floor and 75 percent from the free throw line. She was an all-state honorable mention selection and also was the Independent Metro Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Counts, who ranked in the top five in the state of Minnesota in rebounds and blocked shots, scored a school-record 480 points this season and was named the Providence Academy Defensive Player of the Year.

Her development and play caught the attention of Grant McGinnis of prepgirlshoops.com, which evaluates and ranks elite girls' basketball players in Minnesota.

"Anna's improvement over the past couple of years has been remarkable," said McGinnis. "As a freshman and sophomore she was a pretty average high school basketball player, and now she is one of the top college-bound centers in Minnesota. She is a testament to the value of perseverance."
