Del Monaco enters his fifth year with the Beaver Cross Country and Track and Field program as he transitions to the Director of Cross Country and Track and Field role heading into the 2021-22 season.
Under Del Monaco’s guidance, the Beavers have set 62 DII era school records and 382 top 10 DII era program marks
In 2020-2021, Del Monaco led the Beaver men’s track and field teams to their highest team finishes during the indoor and outdoor track season finishing 7th and 9th respectively. The Beavers garnered 11 All NSIC Conference Selections between the indoor and outdoor track seasons. During the indoor track and field season Whitney Hanson and the women’s distance medley relay broke the all time school records. Hanson also garnered All Conference honors with a 3rd place finish in the 800m. The Beavers had 4 event groups ranked in the top 25 in Division II (men’s and women’s weight throw, men’s shot put, women’s mile) Outdoors, Leif Nelson finished 2nd in the javelin at the outdoor NSIC Championship to earn All NSIC Conference honors while 10 Beavers found their way onto the podium. Joseph Green also set an unofficial national record for Guam in the 200m.

In 2019-2020 Del Monaco led the Minot State women's cross-country team to a historic season with the program's first-ever Top 10 Regional Ranking (7th) and highest program finish at the NSIC Championships (4th). The women’s cross country program jumped 21 spots and were the most improved team in Division II for 2019. Whitney Hanson became the first individual to earn All NSIC Conference honors finishing 15th. The men also had their highest program finish in cross country at the NSIC Championships and NCAA Central Region Championships while Jacob Jensen broke the DII era school record in the 10K. During the Indoor Track & Field season the Beavers posted 6 podium finishes. The women’s 5K event group finished the season ranked #25 in Division II. Additionally, Ashley Franco (5K & 3K), Abigail Mcgee (mile), Landon Dunlap (1K & mile) broke D2 era school records while Whitney Hanson broke the 800m all time school record. The Outdoor Track & Field season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2018-2019, Del Monaco led the Beavers to their highest team finishes in cross country at the NSIC Championships and the NCAA Central Region Championships. Devan Shumway became the first NSIC Athlete of the Week in program history and broke the D2 era school record in the 8K. Taylor Laumeyer became the first female conference champion in program history winning the Javelin during the outdoor track season. Ben Aasen also captured All NSIC Conference honors finished 3rd in the javelin.

In 2018, Del Monaco led the Beavers with 3 NCAA provisional qualifiers and 2 All-Time school records. Jacob Hatfield broke the weight throw all time school record while Tanner Gust eclipsed the all time school record in the hammer throw during the outdoor season. Amber Hunsaker also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the javelin. All 3 were named USTFCCCA All Academic.
Del Monaco’s teams have also found success in the classroom as the Minot State men’s and women’s cross country and track and field teams earned USTFCCCA All-Academic recognition in 2018, 2019, and 2020.The Beavers have had 96 selections to the NSIC All-Academic team, 33 NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence selections, and 9 USTFCCCA All-Academic honorees under Del Monaco. Additionally two student-athletes have been honored with the NSIC Elite 18 Award at the NSIC Championships (Andrea Franco, ITF and Jacob Jensen, XC). Emily Westlake was also selected as an NSIC Female Honor Student-Athlete in 2018.
Del Monaco came to Minot State from Cal State East Bay in Hayward, Calif., where he has served as the assistant coach since the fall of 2016. He also was an assistant coach at Metropolitan State in Denver, Colo., for three seasons.
During his stints at Cal State East Bay and Metro State, Del Monaco coached 12 All-Americans, 23 all-region honorees and had 25 student-athletes named all-conference.
In addition to outstanding success on the track, Del Monaco has seen his teams earn team all-academic honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association in each of the past three years.
During his year at Cal State East Bay, Del Monaco assisted in coaching an NCAA provisional qualifier and a USTFCCCA all-region honoree. His coaching led to the first male all-conference cross country honoree in school history and he also helped coach the Pioneers to their highest finish at the conference outdoor track championships in school history.
At Metro State, Del Monaco oversaw 12 All-Americans in track and field and cross country. Twenty two of his athletes earned All-South Central Region honors and 21 athletes were named All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
He coached the Roadrunners women’s team to an eighth-place finish at the 2013 NCAA Championships, which marked the highest finish in school history. Additionally, two of his student-athletes were named First Team Academic All-America in 2014.
Del Monaco competed collegiately at La Salle University where he was a member of the cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field teams. Post collegiately Del Monaco continued to train representing Puma and the Boulder Track Club. He qualified for 6 USA Road Championships with his highest finish coming at the 2011 USA 20K Championships.
Del Monaco earned his degree from La Salle in 2011 in information technology with a minor in history.
