We are committing to achieving equity and diversity within our teams and our staff. The athletic programs will encourage and promote diversity and equity among its staff and student-athletes by providing a comfortable environment for the understanding of, respect for, and sensitivity to diversity and equity.

Athletic Department will follow the University’s Non-Discrimination Statement

The athletic department will meet all the University’s and NDUS policies for hiring all staff and coaches.

Along with advertising on job web sites to gain a diverse pool of applicants, a current student-athlete from the Athletic Diversity and Inclusion Council will help in the search; the student-athlete will not be a member of the team with the vacancy. The student-athlete will have to follow the University’s guidelines regarding confidentiality but will have the same access as the employees on the search committee.
The athletic department will seek grants that are available through federal, state, conference, or national governing bodies that will provide the opportunity for enhancing ethnic minority and gender representation in athletics administration and assistant coaching positions, pending the requirements of the grant and approved funding.
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
Encourage participation in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Athletic Diversity Council that represents the population of student-athletes. The membership of the SAAC will be composed of members from each of the University's athletic teams. A varsity sport is a sport that has been accorded that status by the institution's chief executive officer. At present these teams include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, track and field, volleyball, wrestling, and women’s ice hockey. All representatives are responsible to be the liaison between their respective team and the SAAC. Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) will be the liaison to the athletic department between SAAC and the administration.
Athletic Diversity and Inclusion Council (ADIC)
Each team will be represented on the council. The Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) and a member of the athletic staff will co-chair the Athletic Diversity and Inclusion Council. The Athletic Diversity and Inclusion Council will serve as an advisory group to the Director of Athletics and regularly to bring up any issues or concerns.
University’s Diversity Council
In October 2020, Athletics’ requested a permanent seat on the University’s Diversity Council. The request is in the process of being included in the Council pending updated by-laws. The University’s Diversity Council will select the member to participate.
Designees
The athletic department will have a member of the staff who serve as the Senior Woman Administrator and Diversity and Inclusion co-chair. The athletic department will be represented on campus, with the conference, and nationally. Title IX Athletics’ staff will be represented on the Title IX committee selected by the University’s Title IX coordinator.
In the Fall of 2020, the athletic department staff and students will participate in the Diversity video and will share on our social media platforms.
Continue to honor the Multicultural Support Services’ request to hang tribal flags in the Minot State Dome to recruit more Native American students to campus. Host the Pow-Wow in the Dome on annual basis.
Honor requests by Coaches, Staff, and Students – On senior night, play their country’s national anthem before the game. Hang the flags of their represented countries on Senior day/night of the graduating seniors.
The athletic department will continue to promote and provide coaches will the ability to recruit locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally to bring the world-class student-athletes to Minot State University.
The overall success of an athletics department is impacted significantly by the quality of the staff and the culture of the department. In addition to ensuring that our coaches and staff receive adequate opportunities for professional development, we must also enhance the connection among staff and create a cooperative and creative environment that enhances departmental culture, communication and effectiveness, and leads to a satisfying work atmosphere and retention.

• GiANT Leadership Development membership.

The athletic Department will continue to work with office of International Students to continue to promote diversity and inclusivity.
• Athletics’ will use the feedback about the culture of the teams and department through the exit surveys organized by the Faculty Athletic Representative.
• Utilize Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for feedback.
• Utilize the Athletic Diversity and Inclusion Council (ADIC) for feedback.
• Athletics’ will publicize their Gender Equity and Title IX Plan on the athletic department web site when complete.

Minot State University is committed to providing an environment that is free from discrimination on the basis of sex to our campus community, in compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013.
