BEMIDJI, Minn. – Goals definitely came in bunches Sunday afternoon.
Minot State and Bemidji State traded two-goal outburst throughout the match, but it would be the BSU Beavers who scored the final outburst, defeating Minot State 4-2 in non conference NCAA Division II women's soccer.
After defeating Bemidji State in the first ever women's soccer match in school history, MSU has now lost three straight contests to BSU.
The Minnesota Beavers struck first building a 2-0 lead 27 minutes into the first half, scoring in the 22nd and 27th minute. Jessie Voeller netted her second of the year and Bri Scanlan her third to give BSU a 2-0 lead.
Minot State countered with goals by
Jamie Council (So., F, Atascadero, Calif.) and
Sidney Bockoven (So., Mid, Elk Grove, Calif.) in the 30th and 41st minute to tie the match at 2 heading into halftime. Council scored her eighth goal of the season - a single season record at Minot State - and Bock oven added her second penalty kick goal.
The game remained knotted at 2 until late in the match. Kathryn Bjorge broke the 2-2 tie with a free-kick goal in the 81st minute. BSU added an insurance goals as Kirsten Erickson hit her ninth of the year a little over a minute later.
The team combined for 53 shots and 28 shots on goal. Both teams fired 14 shots on goal as MSU's
Ashley Barzcewski (Jr., G, O'Fallon, Mo.) finished with 10 saves in the loss for Minot State.
Minot State will play at Jamestown College Wednesday before finishing the regular season at home with two matches facing the University of Great Falls (Mont.) Saturday and the University of Sioux Falls Oct. 31. Game times for the two home matches are set for 4 and 5 p.m.
