MINOT, N.D. (Oct. 31, 2011) – Minot State University's
Zoe Fisher (Fr., M, Cambridgeshire, England) continued a torrid pace as she scored her sixth goal in the past three matches, netting the game winner in the second half in a 2-1 MSU win.
Fisher scored on a breakaway in the first half and flipped a shot over University of Sioux Falls goalkeeper Samantha Maybon in the 54th minute as the Beavers swept the season series with the Cougars in NCAA Division II women's soccer Monday at Herb Parker Stadium.
It was the Beavers final home match of the season.
Fisher's late-season push has been nothing short of spectacular as she netted her 10th goal of the season, breaking a tie with teammate
Jamie Council (So., F, Atascadero, Calif.) for the team lead and the single season record for the second-year program. Fisher has 10 goals and one assist for 21 points, also an MSU record.
Sioux Falls tied the match at 1 with an unassisted goal by Tasia Murray in the 52nd minute. Each team at the time of Murray's goal had scored with a steady wind at their respective backs. Fisher's chip shot, game-winner was into the wind.
The Beavers outshot the Cougars 17-9 and had an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal.
Ashley Barzcewski (Jr., GK, O'Fallon, Mo.) finished with six saves for the win for MSU, while Maybon stopped six shots in a loss.
Shannon Walsh (Jr., M, Minot, N.D.) and
Jamie MacFarlane (So., F, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) assists on the two Fisher goals. Walsh sprung Fisher down the middle on a breakaway for the first goal, while MacFarlane did the same for Fisher's chip shot for the game winner.
MSU and Sioux Falls will play one more match this season as they battle in the first day of the National Transitional Tournament at Sioux Falls Friday. MSU plays the University of Winnipeg on Saturday to end the season.
