MINOT, N.D. – Augustana College's Aleisha Oehlerking scored a goal in the final five minutes of the match to propel the Vikings to a 1-0 win over Minot State in nonconference NCAA Division II women's soccer match Friday at Herb Parker Stadium.
Oehlerking took a great feed from Raelyn Walczak just to the right of the goal and fired it low and left of Minot State goalkeeper
Ashley Barczewski (Jr., O'Fallon, Mo.).
The Beavers (3-4 overall) nearly pulled off the late-goal feat as freshman
Zoe Fisher (F, Cambridgeshire, England) fired a great shot to the right of AC goalkeeper Amanda Wagner. Wagner, however, snagged the shot with a fine save, keeping the score tied 0-0 minutes before the Vikings' goal.
Augustana (4-3, 1-1 NSIC) nearly scored in the first five minutes as they took the majority of play to the Beavers in the first quarter of the first half. MSU turned the tide a little to get the shots to 6-5 at half.
Fisher and L'Tayna Flythe (Fr., M, Minot, N.D.) both had solid opportunities in the first half to get goals as both broke through the defense, only to have shots sail wide of the mark.
Neither team had many golden opportunities in the second half as both team's respective defenses were solid. MSU finished with just six shots on goal, while AC took seven on their mark.
Wagner made it hold up with six saves for the win. Barczewski had six saves and just the one goal in the loss.
MSU, which is in the middle of a four-game losing streak, will look to get a win as they play host to Bismarck State College Tuesday at Herb Parker Stadium.
