Torres makes own goal stand

Beavers get WSC own goal in fourth minute, hold on for road win

Box Score Wayne, Neb.  – Sometimes it's nice to have a little luck on your side.

Minot State scored a goal in the first three minutes off an own goal by Wayne State College and goalkeeper Marie Torres (Sr., San Bruno, Calif.) made it stand in a 1-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win here Saturday.

The Beavers (9-3-1 overall, 7-3-0 NSIC) won for the third straight time and the fifth time in their past six matches. The lone blemish in the run was a 2-0 setback to No. 3 Minnesota State.
During the five-match span of wins, Torres has surrendered just two goals and has three 1-0 shutouts. She has six shutouts on the season with four of them going just 1-0 and one more being a 0-0 tie. On Saturday, Torres turned away 10 shots including five in the second half to preserve the win.

The Beavers got the early goal as the ball bounced off a Wayne State defender just 3:05 into the match. Minot State generated 11 shots overall and six shots on goal, forcing Wayne State's goalkeeper Courtney True into five saves.

Emilie Rebelo (So., F, Sacramento, Calif.) finished with two shots on goal for Minot State.

Minot State has another important road game scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. at Augustana College before returning to Minot for three straight home games.
