MINOT, N.D. – In Minot State University wrestling's recent dual losing streak, the Beavers have had trouble putting together multiple bout wins and finishing off individual matches.

The combination of problems reared its ugly head in the home finale.

MSU could only muster wins at 141 pounds and 184 pounds, but had opportunities in just about every other match, losing to Northern State University 38-9 Wednesday at the MSU Dome.

The Beavers (5-5 overall) ended up with a two-point loss and a three point loss in the middle of the two wins.

Northern State jumped out to a 20-6 lead with a pin, two major decisions and a MSU forfeit, but the final four matches were much closer.

After the intermission, Anthony Bruno and MSU's Joshua Douglas (Fr., Kissimmee, Fla.) waged a back-and-forth affair with Bruno getting late points for the 9-7 win. MSU's Deon Buhl (Sr., Lacey, Wash.) needed a takedown in overtime to defeat Tyler Frost at 141 5-3. Then, Gavin Larson provided little maneuvering for MSU's Kirby Kain (Fr., Williston, N.D.) at 149, winning 3-0. Finally, Neil Sell of Northern State pinned MSU's Marcus Bausman (Fr., Minot, N.D.) at 2:07 in a match that was scoreless until the deciding takedown.

Northern got wins from Blake Lungren with a pin at 165, Donnie Bowman with a major decision at 174, Baker Haar with a major decision at 197 and Matthew Meuleners a win by forfeit at 285 before the break to earn the lead.

Minot State's only other win came by forfeit as Cody George (Jr., Clancy, Mont.) received the win at 184.

The Beavers are off until the NCWA Regional in Edwardsville, Ill., Feb. 25.
