Schlittenhart's goal completes Beavers' rally

Kayla Schlittenhart and Chloe Melton score in 2-1 win

Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. – Minot State University Chloe Melton (Fr., F, Fleet, England) and Kayla Schlittenhart (So., M, Sparks, Nev.) each scored a goal to help the Beavers rally for a 2-1 win over Concordia-St. Paul, snapping a three-match losing streak in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's soccer Sunday at Sea Foam Stadium.

It was both Melton's and Schlittenhart's third goal of the year and it was Schlittenhart's second game-winning goal of the season.

The Beavers (2-5-2 overall, 2-4-1 NISC) had lost three straight NSIC matches in which MISU gave up a late goal in regulation or an overtime goal to lose the match. In Sunday's win, it was the Beavers who rallied.

Concordia-St. Paul (3-7-0, 2-5-0) scored early the first half as Erica Landy put one past MISU goalkeeper Gemma Biasetto (So., GK, Albuquerque, N.M.) in the 17th minute.

But Melton tied the match up 28 minutes later unassisted and Biasetto didn't yield another goal the rest of the way. She finished with six saves and just the one goal in her second win of the  season. She was especially solid late as the Golden Bears tried to mount a rally late.

After being badly out shot in their 1-0 overtime loss to nationally ranked Minnesota State Friday, the Beavers were much more offensive minded. Minot State took 15 shots and had five on goal, compared to 17 shots for CU and seven on goal, many coming in the final five minutes.

The Beavers will look to turn the corner on the season as they play host to a pair of NSIC foes Saturday and Sunday in Minot during Hall of Fame weekend. Minot State plays the University of Minnesota Duluth at 11 a.m. Saturday to start a triple-header day at MISU and finishes the weekend with St. Cloud State Sunday at 1 p.m.
