Box Score MOORHEAD, Minn. – Minot State University's
Kelli Creese (R-Fr., D, LaVerne, Calif.) scored her first career goal in the first half and the Beavers shutout Minnesota State-Moorhead 2-0 in both teams' Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's soccer regular season finale Sunday.
The Beavers (7-7-3 overall, 7-6-2 NSIC) clinched their second-straight NSIC / US Bank Soccer Tournament berth with the win, finishing a point ahead of St. Cloud State, who also won Sunday putting the pressure on. Minot State finished eighth in the league and will travel to regular-season champion Minnesota State Wednesday for the first round beginning at 1 p.m.
Creese, who redshirted last season, staked the Beavers to the 1-0 lead with a goal off a feed from
Chloe Melton (Fr., F, Fleet, England) early in the first half. Minot State was outshot in the first half 9-4, but led 1-0 heading into the second.
In the second half, Minot State took over. The Beavers got an insurance goal from
Emilie Rebelo (So., M, Sacramento, Calif.) in the 64th minute and the Beavers only allowed four shots total and one on goal in the second half.
"We played great today, our second half was very strong," said MISU head coach
Jason Spain. "Rebelo is coming on strong at the end of the season. She was dominant today."
The Beavers'
Gemma Biasetto (So., G, Albuquerque, N.M.) made seven saves in the game, including six in the first half to earn her second straight shutout win. MSU-M split its goalkeepers as Carole Braschayko finished with one save in the first half and Victoria Hoffman turned away eight MISU shots in the second half.
The NSIC / US Bank Soccer Tournament bracket features Minnesota State as the No 1 seed with Winona State (2), Minnesota Duluth (3) and Upper Iowa (4) all playing host to first-round matches. The first round will be hosted on campus by the top four seeds while the semifinals and championship will be hosted by the highest remaining seed following the first round of play.
