DULUTH, Minn. – The Minot State University baseball team scored three runs in the first inning of game one against Minnesota Duluth while scoring two runs in the first inning of game two.
The 3-0 and 2-0 leads didn't last long as the Bulldogs came back to score two runs in each of the first innings themselves to all but erase the Beavers lead before the first six outs of the game. Minnesota Duluth won both games 9-3 and 12-5.
In game one MSU scored two runs on a fielding error and scored the third run off of a
Paul Vogelsang double. Vogelsang let the team in game one with two hits.
On the mound,
Alec Grothe came in during relief to pitch the final two innings for the Beavers striking out two batters giving up zero earned runs.
In game two
Michael Borst singled in the first inning to bring in the first two runs of the day. Later, in the fourth and ninth innings, Borst hit two single-shot home runs, his third and fourth of the weekend and fifth in the last five games. Beginning the streak in a game against Mary on Wednesday, the freshman hit his first home run of the season, four games later he now has five.
Borst was also called upon to pitch in the game, with
Jake Cook getting the start for the Beavers. Pitching for MSU was highlighted by
Mark Fulbright who pitched 2.1 innings striking out four batters while allowing just one hit.
Minot State will finish out its season with six home games starting on Wednesday, May 4, against Minnesota Crookston.
