MINOT, N.D. --
Briley Crissler defeated Gerardo Jaime 6-0 at 197 pounds and Minot State closed the dual with five victories in the final six matches, but Mary held on for a 21-15 victory over Minot State in the Beavers season opener on Wednesday in the Minot State Dome.
Crissler recorded a takedown in the opening period to lead 2-0 after one period. He earned a point in the second period to increase the lead to 3-0 and closed out the match with a takedown in the third and another point for riding time.
Zach Berry began the Beavers comeback at 157 pounds. He took a 10-4 lead into the third period and then held off Jordan Hegel to post a 10-8 victory to get Minot State on the scoreboard.
Carlos Toledano followed with an 8-3 win over Phillip Springsteen at 165 pounds to trim the Mary lead to 18-6.
Following a victory by Austin Eichmann at 174 pounds, the Beavers would reel off three straight wins to close out the dual.
Keegan Berry used a three-point second period and riding time to defeat Jackson Schichel 4-2 at 184 pounds.
Crissler then defeated Jaime at 197 pounds and
Mitchell Eull got points on an escape and a stalling point along with riding time to edge Dominic Tudor in the heavyweight match.
The Beavers return to action on Saturday (Nov. 11) when they participate in the Bison Open.
