MINOT, N.D. -- Minot State's Mitchell Eull, Carlos Toledano and Dean Arevalo each recorded victories, but the Beavers dropped a 25-12 decision to 19th-ranked Minnesota State Mankato on Saturday in the Minot State Dome in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener for both schools.

Eull highlighted the Beaver performances as he recorded a fall victory in the heavyweight division, while Toledano and Arevalo each posted decision victories.

The match opened at 157 pounds and the Mavericks got a major decision win from Daniel Close to take an early 4-0 lead. Toledano scored an 11-7 decision over Seth Elwood at 165 pounds to cut the deficit to 4-3.

Toledano used an escape, two takedowns and a two-point near fall to take a 7-4 lead after the first period against Elwood. Toledano upped the lead to 10-4 after the second period with an escape and a takedown. Elwood climbed to within 10-7 after an escape and a takedown, but Toledano clinched the match with an escape.

Minnesota State, which improved to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the NSIC, posted three straight wins to increase the lead to 14-3.

Eull and Arevalo posted back-to-back victories to get the Beavers right back into the match at 14-12.

Eull defeated Logan Linderbaum by fall at the 5:58 mark to trim the lead to 14-9 and Arevalo followed with a 12-5 win over Andrew McFall at 125 pounds to get the Beavers to within two points of the lead.

Minnesota State then closed the match with three consecutive victories by George Farmah, Louis Sanders and Kyle Rathman to clinch the 25-12 win.

Minot State, which dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the NSIC, returns to action on Sunday (Dec. 10) when it hosts ninth-ranked Upper Iowa at 2 p.m. in the MSU Dome.
