MINOT, N.D. -- Senior heavyweight Mitchell Eull used a third-period takedown and then held off  Lawrence Phillips to post a 3-2 victory, but Minot State fell to top-ranked St. Cloud State 32-6 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference dual on Friday in the Minot State Dome.

Eull broke a 0-0 deadlock midway through the second period with an escape to take a 1-0 lead. Phillips, who is ranked 10th in the nation, rallied with an escape to open the third period to tie the match at 1-1, but Eull regained the lead with a takedown and then held off Phillips to claim his team-leading 16th victory of the season and his first over a ranked wrestler this season.

Minot State, which dropped to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in the NSIC, also received a victory from Dean Arevalo at 125 pounds to open the dual.

Arevalo trailed Brandon Briggs 9-6 in the final 15 seconds of the third period, but used a takedown and a four-point near fall to claim a dramatic 12-9 win for the Beavers. With the win, Arevalo improved to 10-4 on the season and 7-2 in dual meets.

St. Cloud State, which raised its record to 13-0 overall and 2-0 in conference, posted eight straight wins before Eull won at 285 pounds. Jordan Aquino and Travis Holt won by fall and Jake Barzowski recorded a technical fall win for the Huskies.

Minot State returns to action on Jan. 26-27 when it participates in the Kutztown Duals in Kutztown, Pa.
