MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State soccer team opens the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament on Wednesday (Oct. 31) as it hosts St. Cloud State in an opening-round match at 5 p.m. in Herb Parker Stadium.
The Beavers finished the regular season with an 11-4-3 overall record and a 9-4-2 record in conference play to earn the No. 4 seed for the tournament. The Huskies finished the year with an 8-6-4 overall record and an 8-4-3 mark in league play to earn the No. 5 seed for the tournament.
Tickets for the match, which can be purchased online, or on the day of the match, are $6 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, $2 for students and children 5-and-under will be admitted free of charge. Finishing Strong:Â Minot State closed the season in dominating fashion as it won its final five matches of the year and outscored the opposition 10-0 during the winning streak. The Beavers currently boast the longest winning streak of any NSIC team.
That's Some Defense:Â The Minot State defense has been brilliant in the last seven matches as the Beavers have posted a 6-0-1 record during that span. Minot State has recorded five consecutive shutouts and has outscored opponents 15-1 in the last seven outings.
The Wall:Â Junior goalie
Erin Rafferty has also been outstanding as of late as she has allowed just one goal in the last seven matches. She has helped the Beavers record five consecutive shutouts and has five on the season. She is 11-4-3 on the season and has a 0.74 goals against average.
We Just Saw You:Â Minot State and St. Cloud State played on Friday in St. Cloud with the Beavers coming out on top 2-0, which helped propel the Beavers to the No. 4 seed in the tournament.
Sofia Lewis scored a pair of goals for the Beavers and
Erin Rafferty turned aside four shots to earn a shutout for Minot State.
Leading the Beavers:Â
Sofia Lewis led Minot State with 14 goals, seven assists and 35 points during the regular season.
Haley Berryman was second on the team with nine goals and 21 points, while
Jordyn Cook and
Sydnee Canales were tied for second on the team with five assists.
Erin Rafferty posted an 11-4-3 record in goal for the Beavers and had a 0.74 goals against average.
About St. Cloud State:Â St. Cloud State finished the regular season with an 8-6-4 record and an 8-4-3 record in the NSIC to earn the No. 5 seed for the tournament. The Huskies capped the regular season with a 2-0 victory over Mary and won three of their final four matches of the season. Hannah Marion was the leading scorer for St. Cloud State with seven goals and 14 points, while Maria Witte had six goals and 12 points. Zoe Welsh finished the regular season with an 8-5-4 record in goal and posted a 0.94 goals against average.
About the NSIC Tournament:Â The top eight teams from the regular season comprise the field for the NSIC Tournament led by top seed Bemidji State. Bemidji State earned the top seed after posting a 14-0-1 record in NSIC play and will host Mary in an opening-round match. The other first round matchups have No. 2 seed Minnesota State hosting No. 7 seed Concordia-St. Paul and No. 3 seed Augustana hosting No. 6 seed Winona State. The four winners will meet in the semifinals on Friday (Nov. 2) at the home site of the highest remaining seed in the tournament. The championship match will be played on Sunday (Nov. 4).
