MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State soccer team will face Mary in the semifinals of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament on Friday (Nov. 2) at 2 p.m. at The Pitch on the campus of Minnesota State.
Host Minnesota State will square off with Augustana at 11 a.m. in the other semifinal with the two winners meeting for the NSIC Championship and an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament on Sunday (Nov. 4).
Minot State enters Friday's match with a 12-4-3 overall record and have won six straight matches and are 7-0-1 in its last eight matches. The Beavers advanced to the semifinals by rallying past St. Cloud State 3-2 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at Herb Parker Stadium.
The Beavers found themselves trailing 2-0 just 10 minutes into the match, but stormed back behind the play of First Team All-NSICÂ honoree
Sofia Lewis. She scored her first goal of the match at the 15:21 mark of the first period to trim the Huskies lead to 2-1.
Lewis got the equalizer at the 58:41 mark of the second period on a header off an assist from
Audrey Wilson. The Beavers then took the lead for good when
Cinthya Samaniego scored her first goal of the season at the 61:07 mark of the second period giving Minot State a 3-2 lead.
Mary, which is 8-7-3 on the season, advanced to the semifinals after upsetting top-seeded Bemidji State. The Marauders and the Beavers battled to a 0-0 deadlock and Mary advanced to meet Minot State on the strength of an 8-7 advantage in the shootout.
Minot State won the first meeting of the season between the two teams 3-2 at Herb Parker Stadium on Sept. 11. Lewis had a pair of goals for Minot State and
Jordyn Cook scored the game-winning goal with 2:09 to play in regulation giving the Beavers the victory.
