Minot State, which has made previous NCAA Tournament trips in 2016, 2015 and 2012, enters the tournament with a 13-5-3 overall record. The Beavers advanced to the championship match of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament with victories over St. Cloud State and Mary before losing to Minnesota State 1-0 in the title match.

Minot State enters the NCAA Tournament as the No. 7 seed, while Bemidji State is the No. 2 seed and will host the regional site.
