MINOT, N.D. -- Senior
Tori Zimmermann homered and drove in three runs as Minot State extended its winning streak to six straight with victories over Dickinson State and Mayville State on Sunday in the Air-Supported Dome at Herb Parker Stadium.
Minot State, which improved to 7-2 on the season, defeated Dickinson State 7-2 in its first game on Saturday and then wrapped up tournament play with a 12-5 win against Mayville State.
Zimmermann was 5-for-7 in the two games with two runs scored, a double, a home run and four RBIs to lead the Beavers.
Isis Cabral and
Julia Suchan also had five hits for Minot State in the two games, while
Kyla Larson had four hits.
Lauren Cowden recorded three hits while
Ashley Hill and
Haley Hernandez each had two hits.
Kylie Patrick picked up the win in the circle against Dickinson State as she worked the final 4.0 innings and allowed two earned runs while striking out one.
Laura Mendez went the distance against Mayville State and allowed two earned runs and she struck out one batter.
Minot State scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead against Dickinson State. Cowden scored on a wild pitch giving the Beavers a 1-0 lead and Hill lofted a sacrifice fly to score Suchan who had tripled to make it 2-0 Beavers.
Dickinson State cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the top of the fourth inning, but the Beavers answered with five runs in their half of the inning.
Larson led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. She trotted home to score when Hernandez followed with a double to left upping the Beavers lead to 3-1. After a groundout moved Hernandez to third base, she scampered home with the Beavers fourth run on a passed ball.
With two outs, Cowden singled to center and stole second base. Suchan roped a double to left to plate Cowden and Zimmermann followed with a double that scored Suchan to increase the lead to 6-1. Hill capped the outburst with a single up the middle scoring Zimmermann and making it 7-1 Beavers.
The Blue Hawks scored a run in the top of the sixth inning, but Patrick held Dickinson State at bay for the remainder of the game.
Minot State, which has posted double figures in hits in five straight games, found itself in a 3-1 hole after the first inning against Mayville State, but bounced back with a six-run second inning.
Hernandez walked to lead off the inning and
Skyla Neubauer reached on a bunt single and Hernandez came around to score on a Comet throwing error on the play to trim the lead to 3-2.
A sacrifice bunt by
Alaina Marshall advanced Neubauer to third and she scored when Cowden ripped a triple to right center to tie the game at 3-3. The Beavers gained the lead for good one batter later as Suchan doubled to left to score Cowden giving Minot State a 4-3 advantage.
After Suchan moved to third on a passed ball, Zimmermann brought her home with a two-run homer to center to increase the lead to 6-3. Larson brought home the final run of the inning when she singled in Hill for a 7-3 Minot State advantage.
Minot State increased the lead to 8-4 with a run in the top of the fourth inning and salted the game away with three runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Suchan opened the inning with a base hit and advanced to second when Zimmermann reached on an error. Cabral singled up the middle to score Suchan and Larson doubled to score pinch-runner
Melissa Estrada and Cabral to up the lead to 12-4.
Larson finished the second game 3-for-5 with four RBIs, while Cabral was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
Minot State will return to action on Feb. 17-19 in the Air-Supported Dome
