MINOT, N.D. -- Senior
Tori Zimmermann went 3-for-4 and drove in a run and
Skyla Neubauer had a two-run triple as Minot State extended its winning streak to seven straight games with a 6-5 victory over Minnesota State Moorhead on Sunday in the Air-Supported Dome at Herb Parker Stadium.
Minot State, which improved to 8-2 on the season, scored all six of its runs in the first two innings and then held off a Dragon comeback to secure the win. Junior
Kylie Patrick earned the win in relief for the Beavers as she worked the final 4.0 innings and allowed just one run.
The Beavers also got two hits each from
Julia Suchan and
Isis Cabral, while
Ashley Hill,
Kyla Larson and
Sami Jo Henry each added a base hit.
Minot State, which posted double figures in hits for the sixth straight game and the eighth time this season, jumped on the Dragons with fours runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Suchan led off the first inning with a single and stole second base and moved to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Cabral followed with a single to left that brought home Suchan giving the Beavers an early 1-0 lead.
Zimmermann singled to center to move Cabral to second and Hill made it four straight hits with a double that scored Zimmermann to up the lead to 2-0.
With two outs, Neubauer laced a triple to center that brought home both Zimmermann and Hill to up the lead to 4-0.
Minnesota State Moorhead, which dropped to 0-3 with the loss, bounced right back to score four runs in the top of the second inning to knot the score at 4-4.
Minot State took the lead for good in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Suchan reached on an error and advanced to second base when Cabral walked. Zimmermann put the Beavers back in front at 5-4 when she singled to center to score Suchan.
Haley Hernandez scored the Beavers final run of the game when she drew a bases-loaded walk to score Cabral and increase the lead to 6-4.
The Dragons pushed across a run in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 6-5, but Patrick retired Minnesota State Moorhead in order in the seventh inning to nail down the win.
Minot State returns to action on Monday (Feb. 19) when it hosts Providence for a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. in the Air-Supported Dome at Herb Parker Stadium.
