Beavers Face Marauders in Inaugural Battle for the Barrel

MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State wrestling team will face rival Mary in the inaugural Battle for the Barrel when the two teams meet on Friday (Feb. 9) at 7 p.m. in the McDowell Activity Center.

The wrestling programs will now join the football teams in having a traveling trophy for the winner of the Minot State-Mary dual as the gridiron winner gains ownership of the Battle of the Big Lake trophy.

Minot State, which is 2-14 overall and 0-5 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, will look to gain a measure of revenge as the Marauders won the first meeting between the two teams a narrow 21-15 score.

Mary won the first four contests of the dual before the Beavers got on the scoreboard when Zach Berry won at 157 pounds. Carlos Toledano followed with a win at 165 for Minot State to bring the Beavers to within 18-6, but the Marauders got a victory at 174 pounds to up the lead to 21-6.

Minot State closed out the dual with wins by Keegan Berry (184), Briley Crissler (197) and Mitchell Eull (285), but the comeback fell just short.

Eull has had an outstanding senior season for the Beavers as he has a 22-3 overall record and a 14-1 mark in dual meets. Eull has accumulated 84 victories in his Minot State career and is one victory shy of tying the school record for wins currently held by Steve Lipp.

Zach Berry (157) ranks second on the Beavers with 17 overall wins, while Dean Arevalo (125) has 13 wins on the year.

Mary, which is currently ranked 22nd in the nation, has a 6-6 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the NSIC.
