Cabral Drives in Three Runs in DH versus St. Cloud State

MINOT, N.D. -- Junior Isis Cabral had two hits and three RBIs and Tori Zimmermann collected four hits and drove in two runs, but Minot State dropped both ends of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader to St. Cloud State on Saturday in the Air-Supported Dome at Herb Parker Stadium.

The Beavers overcame a five-run deficit in game one before the Huskies scored a seventh-inning run to win the opener 8-7. Kate Kopeck limited the Beavers to four hits and two runs as St. Cloud State won game two 10-2 in five innings.

Minot State, which dropped to 15-12 overall and 2-4 in conference play, banged out 13 hits in the opener. Zimmermann and Camille Greene each had three hits in the opener, while Lauren Cowden and Kyla Larson each had a pair of hits. Julia Suchan, Cabral and Kassidy Millen each picked up a hit for the Beavers.

Minot State took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning of game one when Greene doubled in Cabral to stake the Beavers to an early lead, but St. Cloud State responded with five runs in the top of the third inning and added another run in the top of the fourth inning to take a 6-1 lead.

Minot responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to get right back into the game.

Zimmermann singled to center to start the inning and Larson followed with a single to put runners on first and second with no outs. Cabral singled up the middle to plate Zimmermann and trim the Huskies lead to 6-2.

After a pop up, Greene singled to center to score Larson and bring the Beavers to within 6-3. After Skyla Neubauer lined out to right, Dakota DeLong drew a walk and Cowden singled to center to score both Cabral and Greene to get Minot State to within 6-5.

St. Cloud State, which improved to 19-8 overall and 5-1 in the NSIC, got a run back in the top of the fifth inning when Alexis Jacobs homered but the Beavers would rally to tie the game.

With one out, Kassidy Millen doubled to right and Cowden reached on an infield single and Zimmermann cleared the bases with double to right to tie the score at 7-7.

The Huskies regained the lead in the top of the seventh inning when Libby Bingham hit a two-out single to score Kate Kopeck with the winning run.

Minot State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the second game when Cabral hit a two-run single that scored Larson and Zimmermann.

The Huskies responded by scoring 10 straight runs to claim the victory and the sweep.

Minot State returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Minnesota Crookston for a NSIC doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. in the Air-Supported Dome.
