(WAYNE, NEB.) -- The Minot State University soccer team fell in a heartbreaker at Wayne State late on Friday afternoon by a score of 2-1.
The Beavers got on the board first with an early score by
Daniela Fonseca, her first of the season, off of an assist from
Kelsey Pena, her first in that category. Minutes later, the Wildcats struck with an equalizer by Rylie Wehner off of an assist from Gabi Rosa.
The two teams battled throughout the second half all square until Rosa found herself on the opposite end of a Skylar Stueckrath corner-kick assist and netted the game-winning goal in the 90
th minute of play.
For the Beavers,
Sofia Lewis and
Anabel Noches stayed aggressive on offense with two shots and one on goal each.
Wayne State sophomore Megan Phillips commanded the Wildcat offense despite remaining scoreless with four total shots and three that were on target.
In net, Minot State keeper
Erin Rafferty allowed the two goals but made six saves. On the opposite side, Wildcats' GK Rachel Grisham only made two saves but that was enough to keep the Beavers at bay.
Minot State's record dropped to 1-5-0 overall and 1-2-0 in NSIC play. The Wildcats' evened up their overall record at 2-2-2 and inched above .500 in league play at 2-1-0.
The Beavers will be back in action this Sunday, Sep. 29 from Sioux Falls, S.D. as they will be visiting the Augustana Vikings for another NSIC contest.
