(MINOT, N.D.) – The Minot State wrestling team lost their second dual in as many days this afternoon. The Beavers hosted NSIC foe Minnesota State in the MSU Dome and were defeated 27-13 by the Mavericks.

125: Dean Arevalo (MSU) def. Trenton McManus (MNST) by decision, 11-5.

th-ranked Arevalo proved his national-standing in the first match of the day. He started the scoring with two takedowns in the first and led after one period. Arevalo kept the lead through the second and third periods and took down McManus one more time to close the match and seal the win.
133: Oscar Nellis (MSU) def. Cole Gille (MNST) by maj. decision, 14-2.
Nellis started the scoring in the first period with a takedown and a near-fall. The junior kept the momentum into the second period with another near-fall to extend the lead to 10-0. Nellis was never threatened en route to a dominant win at 133 pounds.
141: Louie Sanders (MNST) def. Lincoln Stormer (MSU) by maj. decision, 14-5.
The nationally-ranked Sanders was aggressive in the first period with two takedowns to get the lead. Stormer managed two escapes in the first period to keep the lead within striking distance. He battled back for a two-point takedown to capture the lead in the second but Sanders reversed. Sanders then scored off a four-point near-fall in the second period to extend the margin and eventually win.
149: Kyle Rathman (MNST) def. Shadi Mitwalli by fall.
Rathman began the scoring with two takedowns in the first period. He dominated Mitwalli throughout the entire first with a near-fall to close the frame. Rathman pinned Mitwalli in the second period for the win.
157: Cooper Siebrecht (MNST) def. Zach Berry (MSU) by decision, 6-1.
Siebrecht and Berry battled through a scoreless first period. Siebrecht struck first with a four-point near-fall in the second period and outlasted Berry for the win by decision.
165: Nathan Baca (MSU) def. Logan Saltou (MNST) by decision, 7-4.
Baca scored first in the waning seconds of the first period with a reversal. He then added a two-point near-fall in the second period. Saltou cut Baca's lead in half with a reversal with 30 seconds remaining in the match. Baca managed an escape as the clock expired to claim the victory.
174: Zach Johnston (MNST) def. Joey Lopez (MSU) by tech. fall, 19-4.
Johnston managed an early takedown to start the scoring. The Maverick grappler nearly pinned Lopez at the end of the first period to gain four more points and led 8-1 following the initial period. Johnston went wire-to-wire to win the match via technical fall.
184: Trevor Turriff (MNST) def. Noe Garcia (MSU) by decision, 10-3.
Turriff began the match's scoring with an early takedown. Following the first frame, the Maverick's 184-pounder led 2-1. Garcia tied the score at two with an escape in the second period but could not match Turriff's attack in the third. Trevor recorded two takedowns in the third period to seal the match.
197: Matthew Blome (MNST) def. Je-Mario Jones (MSU) by fall.
In the quickest match of the dual, Blome pinned Jones after only 27 seconds expired from the clock.
285: Jordan Will (MSU) def. David Griffet (MNST) by decision, 8-1.
In the dual's final match,
Jordan Will started the scoring with a powerful takedown in the first. He recorded another in the second period to extend his lead and followed suit in the third. Will was then awarded one final point on a Minnesota State stalling penalty to end the match.
The Beaver grapplers will be back on the mat next Friday when they host Northern State University at 7:00 p.m. The dual versus the Wolves is the final home contest for Minot State and will be the Beavers' Senior Night.
