Beaver Baseball Drops Pair to William Jewell

(KANSAS CITY, KAN.) – The Minot State baseball team dropped two games today to the Cardinals of William Jewell College. The Beavers competed well but fell just short 6-4 and 10-8.
 
GAME 1 | William Jewell 6, Minot State 4
Minot State put together a valiant effort on Tuesday, but ultimately came up short, losing to William Jewell by the score of 6-4.

Jaden Hofmann (0-1) came out of the bullpen for Minot State (3-2) and took the loss. Blake Gallagher was a bright spot for the Beavers on the bump, throwing 1.2 shutout innings, allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.

D. Behling led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a walk and two RBIs. Ryley Humrighouse furnished a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Minot State got on the board first thanks to Humrighouse's RBI double that scored Drew Behling. Minot State scored again on an RBI single off the bat of Behling, which brought the Beavers lead to 2-0.

Minot State's lead evaporated by the time the fifth inning arrived, though, and turned into a 3-2 William Jewell advantage.  

The Beavers scored twice, with one run coming across on another Behling base hit, and MSU recaptured the lead. The Beavers were unable to hold the advantage, as William Jewell scored three times over the remaining two innings to grab the 6-4 win.

An explosive offensive output was not enough for Minot State on Tuesday. The Beavers plated eight runs, but could not hold William Jewell at bay, and were bested 10-8.

Dominick Parkhurst (0-1) got the ball to start for Minot State (3-2) and took the loss.

Blake Gallagher led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 2-for-5 in the ballgame with a double and two RBIs. Trevaun Smith put together a standout performance at the dish as well, also going 2-for-5 with two RBIs. J. Collins also helped the Beaver effort, going 1-for-2 for Minot State with a double, a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 9-0, the Beavers first put their first runs on the board in the eighth inning. Minot State's offense started clicking and tallied up eight runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Gallagher. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, however, as William Jewell added an insurance run to their score on the way to a 10-8 final.
