MINOT, N.D. – Minot State men's hockey is traveling to Illinois this weekend to make their mark in the ACHA Chicago Classic. All games for the weekend will be played at Fifth Third Arena where eight of the top Division I teams in the ACHA will compete in the three-day tournament Friday through Sunday.
The Beavers slipped to No. 2 in the nation, according to an ACHA computer-generated poll, going into this tournament weekend as they prepare to face some of the toughest competition they've yet to see all season. Familiarity with No. 3 Liberty and No. 17 Illinois gives the Beavers an advantage going into the weekend as they've swept both teams in two-game series already this season. Rounding out the tournament bracket is No. 6 Adrian College, No. 7 University of Las Vegas-Nevada, University, No. 15 Arizona State, No. 25 Davenport, and Rhode Island.
Minot State kicks off the tournament in the first game of the weekend taking on 15th-ranked Arizona State at 3:10p.m. on Friday afternoon. ASU is traveling all the way from the west coast with a 5-5-0 record coming into the Chicago Classic, while Minot State still hasn't given up a loss to any of their opponents yet this season and remains 10-0-0.
With one of the top national ranking and recognition as one of two remaining undefeated teams in their division, there is going to be a huge target on the Beavers' backs in the Fifth Third Arena rink. The first games that are being played on Friday are going to be used as seeding games, and the Saturday and Sunday game times and brackets will be decided based off of game results.
All games will be streamed online from HockeyTV and can be seen with a created account.
