CHAMPAGNE, Ill. –
Jake Anthony made 27 saves and
Davis Sheldon scored on the power play but it wasn't enough for the Minot State men's hockey team to answer a pair of goals by No. 5 UNLV as the Rebels upset the 2
nd-ranked Beavers 2-1 in the ACHA Chicago Classic on Saturday.
The Rebels (11-3-0 overall) scored with 24 seconds left in the first period, then stretched the lead to 2-0 with a goal late in the second.
The Beavers (11-1-0) got on the board with 11 minutes gone in the third period when
Wayde Johannesson set up Sheldon on the power-play, but that was all Minot State could muster in their first setback of the season.
The Beavers are back in action in the tournament, which features seven teams ranked in the current Top 25, playing 6th-ranked Adrian on Sunday at 2:40 p.m.
