CHAMPAGNE, Ill. –
Nick Doyle and
Carter Barley led the way offensively, each scoring a goal and adding two assists each, as the second-ranked Minot State men's hockey team picked up a 5-2 win over No. 6-ranked Adrian on Sunday to close out the ACHA Chicago Classic.
Doyle scored off an assist by Barley with 3 minutes, 33 seconds left in the first period for the Beavers (12-1-0 overall), then Doyle set up Barley late in the second period for a 2-0 lead and Minot State never looked back.
After
Reece Henry made it a 3-1 contest with 27 seconds left in the second period, scoring a power-play goal off a
Wayde Johannesson assist, Barley and Doyle teamed up to set up
Eric Soar for a goal midway through the third period that gave the Beavers a 4-2 lead, and some breathing room.
Drew Carter added one more goal late to ice the win for Minot State, off a
Paul O'Connor assist.
Riley Wallace finished with 25 saves in goal in the victory for the Beavers, who get Thanksgiving off before returning to the ice on Dec. 3 and 4 when they play a home-and-home exhibition series with the University of Mary. The Beavers host the Marauders on Friday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the Maysa Arena, then play at the University of Mary on Saturday at 7 p.m.
