UMary plays spoiler to Beavers start of the holiday season

MINOT, N.D.- The University of Mary Marauders (3-0, 2-0 NSIC) came to town and walked away with a 29-12 victory over the Beavers men's wrestling team (0-2, 0-1 NSIC).

Things started off heated in the very first match, and rightfully so as it was a barn burner. UMary Jaden Verhagen topped MSU's Oscar Nellis in the 125-pound match by a score of 7-6 on a last second stalling penalty on Nellis.

UMary took match number two; the 133-pound matchup between UMary's Reece Barnhardt and MSU's Brandon Meikel by a 10-4 score.

UMary extended its team lead to 12-0 thanks to Laken Boese pinning Beaver Lincoln Stormer with nine seconds left in the first period.

MSU finally got on the board thanks to Shadi Mitwalli securing the high scoring 18-16 victory over Ryan Scherber, and with the victory for Mitwalli meant the first points UMary has given up in team action all season.

Nathan Baca continued an attempted comeback for MSU as he pinned Braydon Huber with 33 seconds left in the first period to pull the Beavers to a 12-9 score.

However, UMary went on a run of their own to put the dual out of reach. Leo Mushinsky took the major decision over Cannon Potts by a score of 12-3 to get four more points for the Marauders.

Max Bruss then pinned Beaver Alex Sandoval with 1:15 left in the first period to push the Marauders to a 22-9 lead with three more matches left.

Wyatt Lidberg walked away with the 8-3 decision over Noah Gallardo. Following closely was Matt Kaylor of UMary nabbing the 9-0 major decision over Dustin Swisher to add on four more points for the Marauders.

Jake Swirple remained undefeated on the season in a narrow 3-2 decision to end the dual over Marauder Gerardo Jaime

In exhibition play UMary's Lincoln Turman slipped past Kelby Armstrong for the Beavers by a 3-1 decsion. In the last dual of the day Jordan Will was able to pin UMary big man Dom Tudor in the third period at the 6:27 mark.

The Beavers will have over a month off as they are able to enjoy the holiday's. MSU will be back in action Thursday Jan. 13th when they travel to Minnesota State University at Moorhead for an NSIC battle against the Dragons with kick-off set for 7 p.m.
