ABERDEEN, S.D. -- The Minot State softball team came away with two wins on the second day of the 2021 PC Dome Classic today. The Beavers won a 2-1 pitchers' duel against Jamestown in Game 1 and broke out in a 14-5 victory over Presentation on Saturday afternoon.
The Beavers improve to 3-1 overall with the wins and close the final day of the 2021 PC Dome invitational with strong showings from
Trinity Valentine in the circle and the lineup as a whole with 14 runs in the final game of play.
Game 1 (2-1 W over Jamestown)
Jamestown grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Kassi Ward homered for her second of the season pushing the Jimmies in front 1-0 through two innings.
Turns out, that's the only run Jamestown would bring in as the Beavers responded with one run in the bottom of the fourth and the bottom of the fifth to grab the lead for good.
In the bottom of the fourth,
Julia Suchan scored on an error by Jimmie shortstop Jenna Remenar to tie the game 1-1 through four innings. The Beavers added a run in the bottom of the fifth with a double by
Maggie Mercer scoring
Kiera Shwaluk and grabbing a 2-1 lead.
Trinity Valentine (W, 1) dominated from the circle earning her first win of the season after tossing a complete-game 7.0-inning effort with three strikeouts and allowing one run on five hits. The top five batters in the batting order each recorded one hit and Mercer drove in the only earned run for the designated home team in the one-run win.
Game 2 (14-5 W over Presentation)
The Beavers wasted little time getting on the board in the second game of the day. MSU scored 10 runs in the first three innings and broke open the game with a six-run third inning to cruise to a 14-5 win over Presentation College.
Senior
Isis Cabral finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored, one double, one home run, and one RBI to lead the Beavers offense to a 17-hit, 14-run onslaught.
Jazmin Karunungan was a replacement in center field and went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Suchan joined in on the fun with two hits in four at-bats and two RBI.
Rianna Aasen went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and
Gabi Dawyduk finished 2-for-2 with one run scored.
Zoya Robbins earned a no-decision after tossing 2.1 innings and allowing three earned runs on seven hits with one walk and one strikeout. Dawyduk (W, 1-0) earned the win with 3.2 innings of scoreless relief with two strikeouts allowing just two hits in the 14-5 victory.
The Beavers open the home slate of games this coming weekend in the Air-Supported Dome Invitational as UMary, Northern State and Bemidji State come to Minot on Feb. 19-20.
