MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State women's soccer team battled MSU Moorhead late into this afternoon's contest. The Beavers and Dragons were knotted at one with less than five minutes to play when
Sofia Lewis scored two goals in less than thirty seconds to seal the comeback win.
Both teams took almost 40 minutes to get comfortable until the scoring began. Morgan Bachelor put a strike into the net in the 34
th-minute with an assist from Anna Steadland. MSUM took the 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.
After halftime,
Melanie van Walstijn lined up a free-kick from just outside the box. Her strike was true and eventually evened the score at 1-1.
The game went back-and-forth for most of the second half until
Sofia Lewis took over. In the 88
th-minute, Lewis was twice assisted by van Walstijn to score the Beavers' second and third goals of the game. Those late scores lifted Minot State to their fourth win of the spring season.
Today's game was the last to be played at home for the Beavers. MSU's next match will be Saturday, April 3 at Montana State-Billings. The Beavers and Yellow Jackets will kick-off at noon.
