Minot State Softball Drops Doubleheader Against No. 1 Augustana

MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State University softball team fell 11-2 and 4-1 against No. 1 Augustana at the Air-Supported Dome on Saturday. 

GAME 1 | No. 1 Augustana (SD) 11, Minot State 2
Minot State had a tough showing on Saturday, falling to Augustana 11-2 despite the efforts of freshman Lenora Watson, who went 1-for-1 with an RBI.
 
Sophomore Roxanne Ines (L,1-1) got the ball to start for Minot State (12-13, 5-6) and took the loss.
 
In the batter's box, the Beavers were paced by Watson, who went 1-for-1 on the day with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers were trailing 4-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Minot State managed to push across two runs in the inning.  The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as Augustana added seven runs to their tally on the way to an 11-2 final.
 
GAME NOTES
» Minot State's highest-scoring inning was the second when it pushed two runs across.
» Minot State pitchers faced 46 Augustana hitters in the game, allowing five ground balls and 14 fly balls.
» Watson led the Beavers at the plate, going 1-for-1 with an RBI.
» Augustana was led offensively by senior Abbie Lund, who went 4-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.
» Senior Ashley Mickschl led the Vikings pitching staff, throwing seven innings of two-run ball.

GAME 2 | Augustana (SD) 4, Minot State 1
The No. 1 Augustana Vikings proved to be too much for Minot State in Game 2, as the Beavers fell 4-1. 
 
Junior Trinity Valentine (7-6) got the ball to start for Minot State (12-14, 5-7) and took the loss. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on five hits, allowing three walks and striking out four.
 
Senior Isis Cabral led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double and an RBI. Freshman Lenora Watson furnished a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the first inning. Minot State got on the board thanks to Cabral's RBI double with two outs. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as Augustana added two runs to their tally on the way to a 4-1 final.
 
GAME NOTES
» Minot State pitchers limited Augustana to just 1-for-8 (.125) with runners in scoring position.
» Minot State pitchers faced 30 Viking hitters in the game, allowing 11 ground balls and five fly balls while striking out four.
» Cabral led the Beavers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
» Augustana was led offensively by junior Abby Lien, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
» Senior Amber Elliott led the Vikings pitching staff, throwing seven innings of one-run ball.

The Beavers celebrate seniors Haley Hernandez and Julia Suchan tomorrow with Senior Day at the Air-Supported Dome. Minot State hosts Wayne State College for two games with the first pitch of Game 1 scheduled for 12 p.m.
