MINOT, N.D. – Th Minot Stater offense racked up 19 hits in a dominant win over Southwest Minnesota State 24-7 on Sunday.
Freshman
Trevyn Badger (1-1) got the win out of the bullpen for Minot State. The right-hander went two innings, giving up three runs, zero earned, on two hits. Junior
Noah Myhre started the ballgame and went two innings, surrendering three runs, zero earned, on two hits, walking one and striking out five. Myhre did not reach the necessary innings limit to earn the victory.
Gunnar Kozlowitz had four total hits, one of which was a home run, and four RBIs to lead the Beavers. Sophomore
Dillon Buckmeier put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs. Sophomore
Kaiden Cardoso also contributed for Minot State, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double, a home run and three RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the first inning. Minot State hit two home runs in the inning on the way to scoring 10 runs.
The Mustangs then gained minor ground, narrowing the lead to 10-3 until the Beavers expanded their advantage in the second. Minot State brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Buckmeier's single, which brought the score to 12-3 in favor of the Beavers.
Minot State held Southwest Minnesota State without a run before building their lead to 15-3 the following inning. The Beavers scored three times, with an output that included home runs from both Cardoso and Kozlowitz.
The Mustangs gained ground, closing the gap to 15-6 until Minot State added some insurance in the fifth. The three-run frame for the Beavers was puncuated by a two-run single off the bat of
Kellen Peat bringing the score to 18-6 in favor of Minot State.
The Beavers held Southwest Minnesota State off the board before building on their lead to 24-6 the following inning. The Minot State offense piled up six runs, highlighted by a three-run triple off the bat of freshman
Martin Rodriquez. Southwest Minnesota State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Beavers still coasted to the 24-7 win.
