DULUTH, MINN. – A solid offensive output was not enough for Minot State on Sunday. The Beavers tallied five runs, but could not hold Minnesota Duluth at bay, and were bested 10-5.
Freshman
Carson Tonini (0-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Minot State (20-14, 18-11). Sophomore
Connor Green was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 2.1 shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out six.
Sophomore
Dillon Buckmeier led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 1-for-4 in the ballgame with two RBIs. Sophomore
Kaiden Cardoso provided a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4. Freshman
Martin Rodriquez also chipped in, going 1-for-3 for Minot State with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers were trailing 2-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Freshman
Matt Malone came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State and get them on the board.
The Beavers deficit expanded to 9-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the sixth inning. Minot State scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-run single off the bat of Buckmeier, which tightened the Bulldogs lead to 9-4.
Minot State kept the Bulldogs off the board before narrowing the gap to 9-5 in the eighth. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as UMD added one run to their tally on the way to a 10-5 final.
