Beavers look to power over the Rangers on the road

MINOT, N.D.- The Beavers men's wrestling program is coming off of their second consecutive match being canceled because of COVID related issues. MSU is hoping to reach the mat for the first time since December 10th's home dual against the Mary Marauders. The Beavers will take on the ninth-ranked Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers in Kenosha, Wisc. this Friday January 21st with match starting time set for 7 p.m. The match on Sunday against the Upper Iowa Peacocks was cancelled due to COVID related issues. 

Scouting the Rangers- This will be the first meeting between the Rangers and Beavers since the Rangers joined the NSIC as an affiliate member in men's wrestling. The Rangers and Beavers will each battle for their first win as both teams are 0-2 to start the year. The Rangers lost a close match to division three Wisconsin-Whitewater 18-17, as well as a 37-3 loss to St. Cloud State. 

The Rangers are led by senior Job Ayala of the 174 pound class; who currently holds a 13-2 record on the year in his individual matches. The Rangers also have an undefeated wrestler; junior Shane Gantz who has a perfect 14-0 record starting out the year in the 165 pound class. Freshman Jalen Spuhler of the 149 pound class also has a 13-4 record on the season thus far, followed similarly in the 141 pound class is Subhan Umar with a 13-5 record on the year. 

Following the longest conference roadtrip ever for the Beavers, they will head back to the MSU Dome to flex on the tenth-ranked Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks Friday January 28th, followed by a pitted dual against the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs Saturday January 29th. The dual against Mankato is currently set to begin at 7 p.m. while the dual against the SMSU is set to start at 2 p.m.
