O'FALLON, Ill. – For the second straight day
Ensley Fendelet turned in a big offensive game for the Beavers who completed a two-game sweep of host McKendree on Wednesday afternoon.
After scoring a pair of goals in a win Tuesday for the Minot State women's hockey team, Fendelet added another goal and two assists on Wednesday as the fifth-ranked Beavers beat the sixth-ranked Bearcats 4-1.
Riley Ball also added a goal and an assist for Minot State (17-4-0 overall, 9-2 WMCH), which has won three straight on their current eight-day, six-game road trip against Top-10 foes. Minot State wraps up the week-long trip playing Friday and Saturday at No. 9 Maryville. Friday's game starts at 1:30 p.m., and the puck drops at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
It wasn't long after the puck dropped on Wednesday that Fendelet started the Beavers offensive onslaught as she scored an unassisted goal with 4 minutes, 19 seconds gone from the game clock.
Early in the second period, Fendelet added her first assist as she set up
Haley Wickham with what proved to be the game-winning goal as Wickham scored 2:23 into the session for a 2-0 lead.
Megan Norris stretched the Beavers advantage to 3-0 as she scored off assist from Ball and Fendelet with 5:40 left before the second intermission, then Ball made it a 4-0 game with just 1:50 gone in the third with an unassisted goal.
Haylie Biever benefitted from the offense as she earned the win in goal, stopping 24 of the 25 shots she faced as the Beavers outshot McKendree 43-25 on the day.
The Wildcats, shut out for the first 110 minutes and 10 seconds of the two-game series, got their lone goal of the series with 9:50 remaining in Wednesday's contest.
