MINOT, N.D. - A second-period explosion led the Minot State men's hockey team to victory Friday night.
Battling perennial powerhouse the Liberty Flames, and trailing by a single goal early, the Beavers put three in the net in the second period and skated away with a 4-2 victory at the Maysa Arena.
Landyn Cochrane scored back-to-back goals in a 3 minutes, 1 seconds stretch early in the second period, putting Minot State (3-0-0 overall) on top for good.
Reid Arnold added a goal midway through the second, then freshman Joey Moffratt scored his fourth of his collegiate career with 5:19 gone in the third to help ice the win before the Flames (4-1-0) scored a late goal to make the final a little closer.
Jake Anthony got his third start of the season in net and made 23 saves for his third victory for Minot State, which hosts Liberty again on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
