MINOT, N.D. - After scoring a dramatic season-opening win, the Beavers hoped for a weekend sweep of visiting Maryville on Saturday at the Maysa Arena.
Instead, the Saints spoiled Minot State's plans.
A quick response to the Beavers first goal of the game by Maryville ended up lifting the Saints to a 2-1 win over Minot State in women's hockey Saturday afternoon.
The Beavers (1-1-0 overall) now hit the road for their first-ever meeting with the new women's hockey program at Jamestown, playing the Jimmies on the road on Friday, then hosting Jamestown on Saturday at 3:45 p.m. at the Maysa Arena.
Saturday against the Saints (3-1-1), Minot State found itself in comeback mode after the first half of the contest went without a goal. With 9 minutes, 12 seconds left in the second, Elle Rutherford put Maryville in front 1-0, the Saints first lead of the weekend.
It stayed a 1-0 game into the third period when
Anna German scored for Minot State with 7:15 gone, as the Beavers looked poised for the comeback.
Instead, 1:15 later, Olivia O'Brien scored the game-winner for the Saints, who spoiled the Beavers plans of a sweep. Friday night Minot State beat Maryville 5-4.
Jordan Ivanco finished with 19 saves in the contest in goal for the Beavers.
