TUCSON, Ariz. -- Minot State got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, but the Beavers fell to the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks 7-6 Friday in the Beavers opening game of the Desert Stinger Classic.
Senior Jamie Odlum then led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 2-for-3 with a double in Minot State's second game of the day, a 5-0 loss to the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros. Senior Maggie Mercer put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-3, as well.
Against NNU to start the day, senior Trinity Valentine was a bright spot for the Beavers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 2.1 shutout innings, allowing two hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.
At the plate, the Beavers were paced by Odlum, who went 2-for-3 with a double against the Nighthawks, as well, with a walk and two RBIs. Senior Kiera Shwaluk compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Sophomore Brooklyn Morrison also chipped in for Minot State, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning, the big hit coming by way of a run-scoring double off the bat of Odlum.
The Nighthawks then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 3-2 until the Beavers expanded their advantage in the second. Minot State brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Odlum's single, which brought the Beavers lead to 5-2.
Minot State's lead had disappeared by the time the sixth inning arrived and turned into a 7-5 Northwest Nazarene advantage, when the Beavers cut that deficit to 7-6. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
