LYNCHBURG, Va. - Despite seeing a 2-0 lead disappear on the road, the second-ranked Minot State men's hockey team still prevailed as
Drew Carter scored 1 minutes, 20 seconds into overtime, lifting the Beavers to a 3-2 road win over No. 3 Liberty.
The win gives Minot State a sweep of the Flames in the teams four-game series this season. Minot State beat the Flames 6-4 and 5-2 in October in North Dakota, and Friday night in Virginia the Beavers skated away with a 5-3 victory.
Landyn Cochrane put the visitors ahead 1-0 in the first period, scoring 6 minutes into the action off an assist by
Jordan Robertson.
Robertson then scored with 8:54 left in the second period, off a Cochrane assist, spotting the Beavers (26-2-0 overall) to an 2-0 lead.
Liberty bounced back with a goal late in the second, then knotted the score 2-2 with 5:46 left in regulation, forcing the dramatic OT winner by Carter.
Jay Buchholz assisted on the game-winner.
Riley Wallace made 21 saves in goal in the victory for Minot State, which is back home next weekend hosting Arizona at the Maysa Arena on Friday and Saturday. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m. both nights.Â
