BRANDON, S.D. -- After seeing the opener slip away, the Minot State baseball team turned the tables on host Sioux Falls on Thursday in an NSIC doubleheader, rallying for a 7-5 comeback win in the nightcap to split the teams' twinbill.
That after a 3-1 lead slipped away in the opener as Sioux Falls scored a 4-3, walk-off win in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Dillon Buckmeier hit a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to cap the Beavers comeback victory as Minot State (8-12 overall, 2-3 NSIC) erased a 5-1 deficit by scoring the game's final six runs.
Next up, Minot State heads to Minnesota to take on Winona State in a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday.
GAME 1 | Sioux Falls 4, Minot State 3, 8 innings
BRANDON, S.D. -- The Minot State Beavers fell 4-3 in an eight-inning matchup to the Sioux Falls Cougars on Thursday.
Sophomore Trevyn Badger (1-2) took the loss on the mound for Minot State. The right-hander went 2.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing one walk and striking out three. Junior Dominick Parkhurst started the ballgame and went five innings, surrendering three runs, zero earned, on six hits, walking none and striking out four.
Sophomore Mark Ossanna led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run and two RBIs. Senior Blake Gallagher put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. BRANDON, S.D. -- The Minot State Beavers responded from down 5-4 in the sixth inning to win in breathtaking fashion, tallying three runs in the seventh to secure a 7-5 victory over the Sioux Falls Cougars on Thursday.
Sophomore Gage Yost (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minot State (8-12, ). The right-hander went 1.1 shutout innings without giving up a hit, allowing one walk and striking out one. Senior Zach Newman also made an impact on the mound for the Beavers, throwing two shutout innings while allowing no hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.
