Beavers drop doubleheader Friday to Lindenwood (MO)

ST. CHARLES, Mo. --Senior Jordan Chappell dominated on Friday, striking out eight Lindenwood (MO) hitters over 5.2 innings of work, but it was not enough as the Minot State Beavers lost to the Lions 10-4.

In addition to his eight strikeouts, Chappell (2-1) went 5.2 innings, giving up eight runs, all of them earned, on seven hits and walking four for Minot State (5-4). Senior Branden Hatley also made an impact on the mound for the Beavers, throwing two scoreless innings while allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.

Senior Declan Buckle led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 1-for-4 in the ballgame with a home run and an RBI. Junior Matt Malone also helped out, going 2-for-4 for Minot State with an RBI.

GAME 2: Junior Dominick Parkhurst was mowing people down on Friday, punching out nine Lindenwood (MO) hitters over six innings of work, but it was not enough as the Minot State Beavers lost to the Lions 5-4.

In addition to his nine strikeouts, Parkhurst threw six innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits and walking five for Minot State (5-5). Sophomore Craig Schmich also made an impact on the mound for the Beavers, throwing 1.1 shutout innings while allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.

Junior Matt Malone led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 3-for-4 in the ballgame with a walk and two RBIs. Senior Declan Buckle compiled a standout performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a walk. Senior Drew Behling also chipped in, going 1-for-4 for Minot State with a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers were trailing 6-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Minot State got an RBI single from senior Drew Behling, scoring sophomore Mark Ossanna from second base.

The Beavers kept the deficit at 6-1 before closing the gap further in the sixth. Minot State picked up two runs, including one on a solo homer off the bat of Buckle, which tightened the Lions lead to 6-3.

Lindenwood (MO) expanded their lead to 10-3 before the Minot State offense got going, reducing that lead to 10-4 in the eighth. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

The Lions then rallied to score three runs and take a 3-1 lead before the Beavers got back on the board in the seventh, which brought the Beavers lead to 4-3. The Beavers were unable to hold the lead, as Lindenwood (MO) scored two times over the remaining two innings to grab the 5-4 win.
