Beavers rack up 37 runs against Concordia, St. Paul in back-to-back wins

RIVER FALLS, WI --Freshman Kellen Peat racked up four hits to help lead the Minot State Beavers over the Concordia-Saint Paul Golden Bears 21-2 on Wednesday.

Freshman Logan Herrera (1-1) got the win out of the bullpen for Minot State (18-13, 12-4). The right-hander went two shutout innings without giving up a hit, no walks and striking out two. Freshman Feliz Dominguez also pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing three hits, walking none and striking out four.

In addition to his four hits, Peat had a double and two RBIs to lead the Beavers. Senior Blake Gallagher put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, a walk and three RBIs. Senior Jordan Williams also chipped in for Minot State, adding a home run, two walks and four RBIs.

GAME 2: Junior Dominick Parkhurst dominated on Wednesday, punching out eight Concordia-Saint Paul hitters over six innings of work to help lead the Minot State Beavers past the Golden Bears 16-3. 

In addition to his eight strikeouts, Parkhurst (3-0) threw six innings, giving up two runs on three hits and walking none for Minot State (19-13, 13-4). 

Senior Jordan Williams led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 2-for-2 in the ballgame with a double, a walk and four RBIs. Freshman Dalin Ludlow put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Junior Kaiden Cardoso also chipped in, going 2-for-3 for Minot State with a walk and three RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers got the scoring started early, hitting two home runs in the first inning on the way to scoring 11 runs.

The Beavers then lost some of their lead, in the second inning after the Golden Bears cut it to 11-2. The Minot State offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Gallagher, which brought the score to 15-2 in favor of the Beavers.

Minot State held Concordia-Saint Paul without a run before building their lead to 17-2 the following inning.

The Beavers held the Golden Bears scoreless before their offense got back in action the next inning. The Beavers scored twice, with one run coming across on senior Declan Buckle's 2-out single, bringing the Minot State advantage to 19-2.

The Beavers held Concordia-Saint Paul off the board before expanding their lead to 21-2 the following inning. Minot State scored twice on solo home runs from sophomore Xavier Selway and senior Drew Behling. The score remained 21-2 for the rest of the game, as the Beavers coasted to the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

The Beavers were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Minot State's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a three-run double off the bat of Williams. 

The Beavers then lost some of their lead in the fifth inning after the Golden Bears cut it to 4-2. Minot State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Cardoso, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Beavers. 

Minot State held Concordia-Saint Paul without a run before building their lead to 16-2 the following inning. The Beavers bats heated up in the inning, scoring 11 runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Ludlow and a two-run single from Cardoso. Concordia-Saint Paul put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Minot State still coasted to the 16-3 win.
