ABERDEEN, S.D.- A pair of goals in the first half by junior
Sarah Upton proved to be enough as the Beavers (4-2-4, , 3-1-2 NSIC) held on for the 2-1 victory on the road against the Northern State Wolves (4-3-3, 2-2-3 NSIC) Friday night at the Athletic and Recreation Fields on the campus of NSU.
The Wolves took the early 1-0 lead only six minutes into the game as junior Hannah Smith snuck the ball past Beaver goaltender senior
Maddie Kindred. However, Upton bounced the Beavers back and tied the game at the 30 minute mark. Upton proved to be a pain in the side of sophomore Alexus Townsend as Upton nailed another goal at the 42 minute mark, thanks to an assist by freshman
Sierra Haren. The goals were Upton's second and third of the season.
The Beavers offense was rolling in the first half as the Beavers put up nine shots compared to the two from NSU. Kindred didn't make any saves in net in the first half compared to Townsend's one, however, the Beavers had two corner kicks compared to the one for NSU.
The second half proved to be the opposite of the first half as the Beavers lucked out from the powerful Wolves offense coming to life. NSU put up 10 shots in the second half compared to the one of MSU which required five saves from Kindred. Corner kicks were knotted up at one apiece, while the Beavers had eight fouls for a game total of nine whereas the Wolves had two for a game total of two.
The Beavers finished with three shots on goal compared to the Wolves six. Senior
Daisy de Boer finished with four shots while Upton had two shots on goal, both resulting in goals. Sophomore
Sofia Galvez provided the other shot on goal for MSU.
The Beavers will continue their road streak and look to make it three straight road wins as they take on the Minnesota State-Moorhead Dragons Sunday afternoon in Moorhead, Minn. on the Nemzek Soccer Field at Noon.
