Beavers bounce back, blank Indiana Tech for weekend split

MINOT, N.D. – The Beavers got even in a most convincing fashion Saturday afternoon.

Career shutout leader Jordan Ivanco made 13 saves to earn shutout No. 17, and the Minot State women's hockey team dominated throughout, skating away with a 5-0 win over visiting Indiana Tech on Saturday at the Maysa Arena.

The win gave the fifth-ranked Beavers a split in the weekend series against the fourth-ranked Warriors, who netted a 5-2 comeback win on Friday.

Similar to Friday, Minot State (13-6-1 overall) took control with a goal midway through the first period as Krissy Rink scored off a Riley Ball assist, giving the Beavers a 1-0 edge 9 minutes, 45 seconds into the action.

Leading 1-0 after the first period, Minot State never let Indiana Tech (21-4-0) get into the game, though, as 28 seconds into the second period Mia Mckee finished off a Cameron Schmidt assist for a 2-0 lead, setting the tone for the remainder of the game.

Firmly in control of the action, the Beavers padded their lead as Anna German scored a power-play goal with 7:24 gone in the second period off assists from Jordan Kulbida and Megan Norris, giving Minot State some breathing room.

But, the Beavers didn't let up.

Hannah Gray made it 4-0 when she scored with 9:45 left in the third period, off assists by Krissy Rink and Makena Welby, then Aspen Cooper capped the win with an unassisted goal with 3:55 left.

A dominating bounce-back effort by the Beavers who outshot Indiana Tech 31-13 in the win.

Minot State next takes on in-state rival Dakota College of Bottineau in a home-and-home series next weekend, hosting the Lumberjacks on Friday at 3:45 p.m. before playing next Saturday night in Bottineau.
