MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State women's hockey team put up another great fight against rival Liberty, but the Flames found a way late to skate off with the win.
In the first of back-to-back rematch games between the two ACHA National Finalists, the Beavers (0-3-0 overall) rallied to tie the game early in the third period Friday afternoon at the Maysa Arena, but visiting Liberty scored the final three goals of the game for a 5-2 victory.
After the Flames (4-0-0) jumped in front with two first-period goals, the Beavers came fighting back as
Gillian Gervin scored with 9 minutes, 41 seconds gone in the second period, then Grace Perry scored with 7:33 gone in the third, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.
The Flames won the race to the finish line, though, scoring two goals in a 1:57 span to break the tie and pull away. A late empty-net goal finished off the victory for Liberty.
Minot State goalie
Haylie Biever finished with 15 saves on the day for the Beavers, who host Liberty again Saturday at 3:45 p.m. at the Maysa Arena.
