MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State women's hockey team hits the ice again this weekend hosting a first-time foe in Lake Superior State (Mich.) in a pair of games at the Maysa Arena.
Puck drop is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 20 and 21.
The match-up is the first-ever between the Lakers (0-4-0 overall) and the Beavers (1-3-0), who head into the weekend with some momentum after securing a thrilling, 3-2 overtime win over reigning ACHA National Champion Liberty this past Saturday.
After playing arguably two of the best teams in the country to start the season, teams Minot State has battled head-to-head in the 2022-23 national title game (Liberty) and 2021-22 national semifinals (Midland) as well, Lake Superior State comes in as a young program that only started in 2020 and is in its second year of ACHA Division I competition.
Junior Sophie Jaremko leads the way with three of the team's six goals on the year for the Lakers, who have fallen twice to Michigan and lost two other games to Indiana Tech.
Freshman Laney Pasemko and sophomore Asia Kachuk have split time in goal for Lake Superior State, each playing a game apiece against the team's two opponents who have outscored the Lakers 19-6 on the season.
As for the Beavers, playing two of the nation's best has proven a challenge to start the season, leading to just one win and six goals.
Freshman
Paige Kozak leads the team with two goals, including the overtime game-winner against Liberty, while senior goalie
Haylie Biever has done all the work, to date, between the pipes with a 3.03 goals against average and 112 saves in four games.
The weekend series wraps up a four-game homestand for the Beavers who hit the road for games at Indiana Tech and Adrian College (Mich.) next weekend before returning home to host Maryville (Mo.) and Midland (Neb.) in back-to-back weekends to start November.
