Minot State women’s hockey hits road for games at Indiana Tech, Adrian

MINOT, N.D. – With the snow flying outside, it's only right to think hockey, and this weekend action on the ice is what will be on the minds of the Minot State women's hockey team as the Beavers hit the road for two games each at Indiana Tech and Adrian (Mich.).

Both foes visited the Maysa Arena last winter with the Beavers (3-3-0 overall) splitting with each on home ice.

And similarly, both are off to hot starts to this season as Indiana Tech is 8-0 already and outscoring opponents 46-9, while Adrian is 5-1 and besting foes 33-5 so far.

As for the Warriors, who Minot State faces Thursday at 2 p.m. (Minot time) and Friday at 6 p.m. (Minot time) in Indiana, they have played one similar opponent with the Beavers in Lake Superior State, notching 6-2 and 5-1 wins over the Lakers back in September.

Allison Greene and Michelle Borland lead the way for a prolific offense as each have 7 goals apiece through eight games, while Genessie Williams and Megan Yakiwchuk each have scored 6 goals for the Warriors (8-0-0) this season.

Isabel Varner has been the standout in goal to date for Indiana Tech with a 0.99 goals against average, 6 wins, and 2 shutouts.

Saturday and Sunday the Beavers will be in Michigan to take on Adrian at 6 p.m. (Minot time) on Saturday, and at 3 p.m. (Minot time) on Sunday, a team that rightfully could be 6-0 if not for a 70-save shutout by Grand Valley State goalie Samantha Schulz in a 1-0 victory.

Aside from that one setback, the Bulldogs (5-1-0) have been rolling led by Hailey Wiltshire with 7 goals, and Rhea Peterson and Allison Shaw, with 5 goals apiece.

Chloe Burt has led the Bulldogs in goal with 3 wins, 2 shutouts, and a 0.50 GAA.

As for the Beavers, who started their season with national semifinalist Midland and 5-time national champion Liberty, they're on a 3-game win streak led by a balanced offense as Anna German, Aspen Cooper, Paige Kozak, and Gillian Gervin all each have 2 goals, while senior goalie Haylie Biever has 2 wins and a 91.2 save percentage in five starts.
